If you have recently become fascinated with the idea of tarot divination and would like to have your own tarot deck, you might have already thought about buying one, or, why not, even downloading a free set online and making them yourself. Many websites offer the possibility to download free printable tarot cards, some of which based on existing and widely known tarot decks, such as the Rider-Waite tarot, and some that have been created by various graphic artists and which have never been printed by a company and distributed as such. Of course, there is always the option to create and print your own tarot cards, if you have artistic inclinations, are extremely proficient in tarot symbolism and wish to have a strong connection to your deck of tarot cards. Here are a few things to consider if you are thinking about getting a set of free printable tarot cards for yourself.

The first thing you have to ask yourself is why you would choose this option in order to obtain a deck of tarot cards. If the answer is the need for a strong spiritual connection to the cards, a sense of belonging in a way, or the fact that the idea of the uniqueness this kind of tarot cards might hold intrigues you, then you should definitely go ahead and print your own tarot cards. There’s a great variety of artwork just waiting to be discovered and the internet and all the talent resources it can hold are at your disposal. If, however, the idea of the free printable tarot cards interests you for the fact that they are free, you should probably reconsider. First of all, in order to retain at least some of the artwork’s quality, you would need a high quality printer. Secondly, in order for them to look like actual tarot cards, you can’t use regular paper; you would have to use a thicker, glossy or textured paper to retain the feel of the tarot cards. Thirdly, you would need a paper trimmer to get all your cards at the same size and to avoid jagged edges or other unpleasant incidents. And last, but definitely not least, all the cards would have to be laminated if you wanted to use them more than a few times, because aside from being extremely difficult to shuffle otherwise, they would deteriorate very rapidly, even from moderate use. Unless you already own a high quality printer and paper, a paper trimmer, have a laminating machine, and a lot of free time, you will probably have to get all those things done at a shop. Thinking about it, instead of getting the free printable tarot cards, you’d come out a lot cheaper with just buying a set. You can find many inexpensive and great-quality tarot card sets by clicking here.

When you consider the fact that a good quality tarot deck can cost around $10, and a high quality one can go at around $20, and you put that in balance with all the printing ink, paper, lamination film, time and patience that you would be spending, the answer to whether or not you should get a set of free printable tarot cards becomes quite obvious.

Tarot card layouts can vary based on the experience of the reader or the purpose of the reading. There are many types of tarot card spreads, from one card and three-card spreads to more complex, mandala or Celtic cross shaped spreads. You can even create your own spread, provided you follow certain guidelines. Here are a few spread ideas to get you started.

The three card spread is very simple, yet very effective in helping you focus on a certain issue and seeing it in the context of its emergence and in the perspective of its outcome. The three cards are spread out from left to right, in a straight line. The first card on the left will represent the past, or the context of your problem, the one in the center will represent the present, or the actual center of the problem and the third card will represent the future or the possible outcome.

A four card spread is another one of the very simple tarot card layouts that can offer amazing insight into the evolution of a certain issue. After the careful shuffling of the cards, these are picked from the top and placed in a straight line going from left to right. The first card will signify the past, the second card will signify the present, the third, the future and the fourth the possible outcome of the current situation if all things remain unchanged.

In some tarot card layouts versions of the five card spread, the cards will be laid out in a cross shape. The first card will be the one in the center, the second card will be the one on its left, the third, the one on the right of the first, the fourth, the one at the bottom and the fifth the one on top. The first card will symbolize the present or the focus of the question. The second card symbolizes the past, or the context of the issue in question. The third card represents the future or the possible outcome. The fourth card reveals the motivation, either for going ahead with the object of the question, or for not pursuing it. The fifth card represents the potential of the combined situation.

Tarot card layouts comprised of 9 cards can be realized in many complex shapes. The simplest way to set a 9 card spread is by creating three rows, each containing three cards. This type of spread is created for more general readings, as the top row represents the past, the center row the present and the bottom row the future.

You can create your own customized tarot card layouts, but you must make sure to determine all the elements and the way each card reports to one another. You must first create an axis past-present-future and decide what position that axis will have in your final spread. Then, you must proceed in a cause-and-effect pattern. Since everything is connected in our lives, they also must be in your tarot spread. You must also pay attention to the revealing order of each card in your spread, based on the same causality methods.

If you have an interest in mysticism and a desire to practice the art of divination with the use of tarot cards, there are a few basic things you need to know before getting started. In order to learn to read tarot cards, you have to understand that every step you take and the way in which you take it will influence the accuracy of your reading.

Before getting started, you must first choose a deck of tarot cards (you can get a deck by clicking here). You must then think about your question and focus on it very strongly, and last, but certainly not least you must have an idea of the spread you want to use for your reading and be sure you know how to create that spread. An important thing when you begin to learn to read tarot cards is getting your spreads right. There are many spreads to choose from, but in the beginning, you can either go with the very simple three card spread or with the very popular Celtic cross spread. While shuffling, make sure that your full power of concentration is channeled on the question you need an answer for. Shuffle the cards well, to make sure they become filled with your energy. Choose a deck of cards that suits your needs and that speaks to you. The imagery and symbolism presented on tarot cards is generally very suggestive, and ideally, it should find some sort of echo in your inner self, in order to stimulate your powers of intuition.

When you are laying the cards in the spread you have chosen, you must remember to start with the top card and to turn them face up one by one. When you learn to read tarot cards, you have to know that the interpretation of each card must be done as it is turned face up and one must only move on to the next once the current card has been interpreted.

A very important thing when learning how to read tarot cards is working on the development of your intuition. When you are fully open to the meaning of the cards and your full intuitive powers are employed, the meaning of the cards will reveal itself to you. You must be focused on all the details of the reading. The position of the cards in the spread, their upward or reversed position (reversed position can alter a card’s meaning, either making it the opposite, lowering its power or enhancing it), the predominance of cards belonging to the Major Arcana (warns about the fact that you are not paying enough attention to important things) or to one suit, the order in which they are revealed all hold strong meaning for your reading.

When you learn to read tarot cards, it’s essential to start viewing the cards in your spread as a unitary whole, comprised of many, equally vital elements, and to understand that the overlooking of one of these elements can lead to a misinterpretation.

Meaning of Each Tarot Card

There are usually 78 cards in a tarot deck, and the meaning of each tarot card, the suite they form part of, as well as their position in the spread or the way they are oriented (upwards or downwards) determines the result of the reading. Neglecting to see any of the elements as a unitary whole can lead to a faulty reading. You can download a comprehensive beginner’s tarot course from this website. That course will teach you to read tarot cards in 24 hours – if it doesn’t work for you, simply ask for a refund, no questions asked.

In order to discover the meaning of each tarot card, we must first understand that they are divided into groups, and the groups can sometimes have subdivisions. The two main groups are the major arcana and the minor arcana. While the major arcana is comprised of twenty-two cards and is not divided into suits, the minor arcana is comprised of fifty-six cards divided into suits, four of which being face (or court cards). Each suite in the minor arcana corresponds to one of the four elements of alchemy, earth, water, air and fire, respectively the pentagram, the cups, the swords and the wands. Each court card also corresponds to an element, making earth the element of the page, air that of the knight, water that of the queen and fire that of the king. If any of these elements double up, the power of the respective card increases, therefore the queen of cups or the king of wands are very powerful as far as tarot card meanings are concerned. The cards in the major arcana refer to a person’s life, and the interpretation may refer either the point in life where they are finding themselves or to a change that is about to come. The fool, for instance, symbolizes a beginning, but also warns of the dangers of recklessness, a high priestess represents balance, a sense of maturity and confidence, death usually represents a major change.

There are many types of layouts one can try in a spread, but maintaining the order and place of each card is crucial. Each position in a spread holds a meaning and establishes a certain report with the neighboring cards. This can relate to other persons, determining factors in your life, such as career and relationships or the chronology of events. When interpreting a spread, cards must be revealed and interpreted one at a time, in the appropriate order. The meaning of each tarot card is strongly related to the position it holds in a spread.

A predominance of cards belonging to a particular suit can also influence tarot card meanings. A predominance of major arcana cards warn that you are taking things too lightly. A multitude of cards from the minor arcana suits can draw alarm signals about indecision (swords), encourage you to take action (wands) or bid prudence (pentacles).

The upright or upside down position can also influence the meaning of each tarot card. While an upside down position can sometimes give the card a completely opposite meaning, sometimes it can simply mean more attention is required by a certain element, or even an exacerbation of the strength of that particular card.

The meaning of each tarot card must be seen in the context of the other cards, its position in the spread and its upright or reversed position. Tarot card meanings are always determined by the totality of elements in a spread.

Tarot cards have long been considered a powerful tool in the art of divination. If you decide to buy tarot cards, you have to choose from a variety of tarot cards for sale, and to make your choice easier, here are a few guidelines about the most popular tarot cards out there.

The Rider-Waite tarot cards are widely recognized as a turning point in the history of tarot, and in many respects, they have shaped the way modern tarot is perceived. Aside from the inspiring artwork, they come in different sizes, from pocket size to gigantic and in different versions, from a modern, vividly colored one, to the more subtly colored re-release of the original version. Apparently though, in the re-release of the original version, the illustrations were not recreated from original sketches or plates, but by copying a pre-WWII pack.

The Golden Tarot pack is another version of tarot cards for sale. It follows the Rider-Waite influences, while replacing the imagery on the cards with suggestive Middle Ages and Renaissance imagery. Some minor qualms might be found as to the thickness of the deck and therefore the difficulty in shuffling them, but that is more a matter of habit than anything. Overall, if you are looking to buy tarot cards, these definitely seem like they deserve your attention.

The Osho Zen tarot focuses on an understanding of inner thoughts rather than on foreseeing the future. If you want to buy tarot cards, you should know that in this pack, the artwork is modern, vivid and beautiful and many opinions point to its accuracy as well as its ease of use.

Another type of tarot cards for sale is the Druidcraft deck. This combines the principles of tarot, druidism and Wicca with lavish artwork. User reviews appear to be overwhelmingly positive, speaking about the extraordinary suggestiveness of the imagery, though there seem to be some complaints about the size of the cards.

The Robin Wood deck has a luminous, positive feel to it, which has led some to outright adore it and some to thoroughly dislike it, calling it saccharine and superficial. The pagan imagery might also put off those with an inclination for more Christian-inspired images.

The Thoth tarot is one to consider if you are looking for a less traditional deck of tarot cards for sale. This tarot system takes elements from a variety of cultures and presents some variations from traditional tarot. The Swiss printed version is the one to buy.

If you are looking to buy tarot cards, the Llewellyn deck is an option, but while the artwork is beautiful, the manageability of the cards and the quality of the bag might leave a bit to be desired.

The Fey tarot combines the ideas of mysticism and modernism with the use of manga-inspired artwork, so in your quest for the best tarot cards for sale, you should keep that in mind.

The Prague tarot is influenced by the Rider-Waites principles but the imagery employed is representative for the city of Prague, and skillfully realized. While it doesn’t appeal to all tastes, those who have bought this set seem very satisfied.

The Gilded tarot deck relies on computer generated imagery, not dissimilar to that of video games. If those types of images appeal to you, make sure you order a premium quality pack, because the regular edition seems to be of lower quality.

You must remember whenever you want to buy tarot cards that first and foremost, they should have a look and feel that resonates with your inner self.
